In-School Student Workshops
Skills-Based Résumé Creation:
Students are guided through the creation of a skills-based résumé. By the end of the session, participants have created a rough draft of their résumé and a list of their skills. The dos and don'ts of making and handing out résumés are also presented.
Preparing for Interviews:
Students receive tips on preparing for interviews. The workshop discusses different types of interviews, questions the interviewee can expect and how to answer them. Students explore at what employers look for and how they will be judged.
Job Searching:
This workshop provides vital information and tips on job searching. Students learn about the hidden job market, the importance of networking and volunteering. As well as successful vs. unsuccessful job searching techniques.
New Job Survival:
Offers advice to new employees: knowing the written and unwritten rules of the workplace, work ethics, the do's and don'ts of the job. This workshop aims to help employees with little or no job experience keep their job!
Cover Letter and Application Forms:
Students considering a career in the skilled trades will learn about Apprenticeship as an option for the certification process.
